Information R/evolution

Today I’m adding a new category to this blog and it’s titled information. This new category was inspired by a recent youtube video by Michael Wesch on how information or they way we should deal with/handle/view it is changing if it hasn’t already.

When I saw this video, I tried to remember what it was like for me when I was in school and how information was passed from teacher to pupil. Information was not as accessible back then and the mentality regarding information was based on how to categorize it. Leaping forward twenty-sum years to where we are truly in an age of information, teachers are no longer seen as the conduits of information or knowledge and more as reference sources. The approach to information is also changing, it can no longer be categorized in complex hierarchical structures, but like the web itself are ‘interlinked’ from multiple sources. The student of today learns from multiple sources of information, but still we struggle with how to manage as individuals, companies, organizations, governments, etc., this information, and eventually what we do with it.
There is still much to understand about information, many will try to control, manipulate, horde it, yet others will give it away freely. Understanding how we process the infinite amount of information that is available will be essential to how we define our future. Having started this posting by creating a new category, I am indeed falling into same trap as described in the very same posting and as seen in the video, how digitally ironic.
How are you managing your information?
